The Hound Hunt - Sniffing Out Austin

It's Pawsitively Irresistible are teaming up to bring you The Hound Hunt this fall, a city wide, dog-centric scavenger hunt! And we are looking for one shelter, rescue group or pet organization to benefit from this fundraising event.

We'll have clues and tasks for people to partake in all over the city, visiting different dog related shops and businesses. Businesses will pay a fee to be involved in the Hound Hunt, and all the proceeds will go directly back to the organization selected.

We are going to be carefully selecting the pawfect rescue group, and to do that we just need a little help from you. In the comment box below, tell us the name of your organization, where you hail from and answer the following questions:

  1. What is your organization's mission statement?
  2. What will your organization do with the extra money?
  3. What's your favorite dog friendly spot in Austin?
  4. How did you hear about The Hound Hunt?

Now sit back, relax and roll over while we take the next week and decide who will be the lucky organization.

Deadline for commenting is June 4th, 2011. Please pass this along to all your friends/contacts!

Thanks sooo much for giving us this exciting opportunity to participate in such a fun and inventive fundraiser!! Our details follow...

1) Mission Statement: Cocker Spaniel Rescue of Austin/San Antonio (CSRA) is an all-volunteer, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing a safe haven for cocker spaniel dogs in need in central Texas. Our rescued orphans are fostered in the loving homes of our volunteers who work proactively to teach life skills, advocate for the dogs’ health needs, and prepare them for life with their new family. When they are ready and a good fit is found, our cocker spaniels are placed in loving, forever homes.

2) Cocker Spaniel Rescue Austin/San Antonio would like to use the funding received from The Hound Hunt - Sniffing Out Austin for a new program called the CSRA Critical Care Fund. This fund would be used to address the immediate medical needs of cockers entering our program such as surgery for both chronic and acute ear, orthopedic, and eye issues; as well as treatment for conditions like infections, injuries, and heartworm disease. This Fund would provide a safety net, so that when we are notified of a special-needs cocker awaiting rescue, we don’t have to waste precious time attempting to raise enough money to pay for the needed care or decline to rescue the dog because of inadequate funding.

Dogs with medical issues are among the most euthanized dogs in the shelter environment. The cost to save a shelter dog that has medical issues is at least double that of a healthy dog. We don’t want to have to reject friendly, adoptable cockers with highly treatable conditions like cherry eye, heartworm infection, or mange just because we don’t have adequate funding. CSRA is committed to meeting every medical need our dogs have. Sometimes this means that we are faced with thousands of dollars in vet bills for just one dog. But, we know we can honor our commitment because of kind and generous friends like Party Animals and It's Pawsitively Irresistible! With help from the funds provided by The Hound Hunt - Sniffing Out Austin, we can help make their dreams of love, security and family come true!

3) Gosh! This is a super hard question since Austin is full of fantastic, dog-friendly places. If we had to choose just one spot in Austin as our favorite dog-friendly hangout in Austin, it would have to be, paws down, Zilker Park!

4) We received an email invite to apply from Lisa at Party Animal! Thanks, Lisa!!

Austin Pets Alive!
Austin, TX
www.austinpetsalive.org

1. To promote and provide the resources, education and programs needed to eliminate the killing of companion animals.

2. At Austin Pets Alive!, we save the animals that no other shelter or rescue group wants so most of the animals coming into our care have some kind of medical issue that needs to be treated. The funds raised from this amazing event would go towards the emergency medical fund, which allows us to save animals needing immediate attention, such as Flash. (http://www.austinpetsalive.org/tag/flash)

3. I agree with Cocker Rescue, this is a tough question!!! We love all the dog parks, and the restaurants and bars that allow any breed of dog to join their owner.

4. Lovely Lisa emailed us about this event - thank you!

1.) What is your organization's mission statement?

Pug Rescue of Austin is a nonprofit 501c3 organization (under the fiscal sponsorship of Austin Community Foundation) dedicated to the rescue and placement of abused, neglected and unwanted pugs. We do not discriminate on the basis of health or age.

Our mission is to provide a safe, caring and humane refuge for abandoned pugs and to ensure quality adoptive homes.

Pug Rescue of Austin promotes responsible pug ownership through public education about the unique needs of pugs and a mandatory spay/neuter policy.

2.) What will your organization do with the extra money?
100% of the dollars we raise goes toward paying the costly medical bills for pugs in need like Timmy that rely on Pug Rescue to be given a chance at the life they deserve. You can learn Timmy's story at pugrescueaustin.com/timmy.

What's your favorite dog friendly spot in Austin?
There are so many! We love bringing our curly tailed friends to Freddy's and Opal Divines for a nice meal outside and Auditorium Shores and Bull Creek for great social time with other pooches!

How did you hear about The Hound Hunt?
Lisa contacted us about this great opportunity. The Pugs are sending you lots of loving grunts and tail wags for thinking of us!

Hi, and thanks for including Emancipet!

1. We are local non-profit organization, dedicated to providing free and low cost spay/neuter and basic preventative veterinary care to those that need it most in our community.
Our goal is to see that all pets have a chance at a life of happiness and good health. We envision a world where no cat or dog is ever killed just for being homeless. We proactively work towards that goal by providing services and advocacy that effectively and humanely reduce the homeless pet population.

2. Emancipet provides nearly 17,000 spay/neuter surgeries a year. Over 60% of these surgeries are done for free. This additional funding would help us to keep our promise of never turning away a client or patient simply because they can't afford veterinary care.

3. Everyone is right! We are so lucky to be in Austin with so many dog-friendly places to go! You can see Emancipet Staff and Pets all around town, but some of our regular haunts are Redbud Trail, Opal Divine's, Baker St., Freddy's, and Turkey Creek.

4. Thank you to Lisa at Party Animals for including Emancipet in the Hound Hunt!
